For Singer/Songwriters +Many of us know what it's like to not have our own bank to fund our musical endeavors. It's not an uncommon predicament. Many studios charge hundreds of dollars for their services, Don't get me wrong, If they're good, it's totally worth it. Not a lot of us can pay it.
I'm relatively new to the mixing and mastering game on my own. I have, however, been a musician for decades. I've had quite a bit of in studio experience. I've recently had the chance to learn techniques from Grammy-winning/nominated producers. I've worked with one of them personally on a past project for another artist. So... why on Earth would I want to do this sort of thing for singer/songwriters? I am one. I know what it's like to want to create something beautiful and not have the money needed to pay a big deal studio person to work their magic. I had to come up with magic of my own. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to connect with some folks in the biz willing to teach me some bits and pieces. Or, Let me watch. |
Knowing that I've spent nearly a lifetime in feeling like I could never afford to have my music done professionally, I adapted ways of doing it myself. Fast forward.
With a combination of trial and error, watching studio engineers at work, tutorials given by top mixers and producers, and training my ear with a stubborn determination to never give up until I've got the right sound, I have learned quite a lot about arranging, mixing, mastering, and more. I would like to put that knowledge to good use for our musical community. I do everything in my power to keep my overhead low so I can pass those savings onto you. That includes using a free website. |

How to prepare tracks for Mastering...
- Remove any pops or clicks in your track. Unless they are being used as an effect for your piece. Also remove fades.
- Leave some silence in the front and back ends of the track.
- Take off any plugins used on the master/stereo out channel. Especially anything with dithering. This includes compressors or limiters. If it is crucial to your sound, send two copies of the track. One with. One without.
- Track should not clip the master. It should peak at -6db or slightly less.
- Send tracks as .WAV or .AIF (aiff).
- Think of a reference track (a song you like from another artist) as a comparison for the sound you're looking for.
- If you have an ISRC* code, please send it along with the track.
You can also opt to have me prep the track and mix it for you.
*What is an ISRC?
The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the international identification system for sound recordings and music video recordings. Each ISRC is a unique and permanent identifier for a specific recording, independent of the format on which it appears (CD, audio file, etc) or the rights holders involved. Only one ISRC should be issued to a track, and an ISRC can never represent more than one unique recording.
ISRCs are widely used in digital commerce by download sites and collecting societies. An ISRC can also be permanently encoded into a product as its digital fingerprint. Encoded ISRC provide the means to automatically identify recordings for royalty payments.
